Large rugs

A large rug measures between 230 and 349 cm on its longest side. At Rugvista, the most popular large sizes include 160 x 230 cm, 200 x 250 cm, 200 x 300 cm and 250 x 300 cm. Our range also includes round and 200 x 200 cm square options as well as long runners at 80 x 250 and 80 x 300 cm. For anything over 350 cm, see our extra large rugs.

Large rugs suit medium-to-large living rooms (roughly 3 x 4 m and up), double and king-size bedrooms, and dining rooms seating four to six. In a living room that size, a 200 x 300 cm rug is wide enough to sit under the front legs of your sofa and armchairs and tie the seating area together; in a double or king bedroom the same size fits under the bed with a soft border to step onto. Leave around 20–30 cm of bare floor between the edge of the rug and the walls so the room still feels balanced.

For most sofas a 200 x 300 cm large rug works well: place it so the front legs of the sofa and any armchairs rest on the rug, with the coffee table fully on top. This creates one connected, cosy seating zone rather than a rug that floats in the middle of the floor. In a smaller sitting room, a 160 x 230 cm rug sits neatly in front of the sofa.

Add at least 60–70 cm to each side of your table so the chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. A four-seat table usually pairs well with a 160 x 230 cm or 200 x 250 cm rug, while a six-seat table sits better on 200 x 300 cm – or 250 x 300 cm for a wider or extending table. For a round or square table, a 200 x 200 cm square keeps an even border all the way round.

Yes. A 200 x 300 cm large rug fits well under a double or king bed placed towards the head of the rug, leaving a soft border down each side and at the foot to step onto. For a king or super-king with a more generous border, 250 x 300 cm gives more coverage. Two long runners (80 x 250 cm or 80 x 300 cm) placed down each side of the bed are a good alternative.
