TurkamanHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown138 x 190 cm

The Turkaman rug tradition has its roots in the nomadic tribes of the Central Asian steppes, whose design language has travelled across the Middle East for centuries. These rugs are celebrated for their deep, saturated colours, often dominated by earthy reds, and their highly structured, repeating patterns.

The term Turkaman refers to these specific tribal designs, which are defined by their use of intricate geometric shapes. The pile is crafted using high-quality Wool, which offers a natural lustre and durability that has made these rugs highly sought after by collectors who value longevity and authentic craft.

A signature element of this tradition is the consistent use of repeating medallions and geometric borders. These motifs are not merely decorative but often carry cultural significance, representing tribal identity and the historical environment of the weavers. The precision seen in these patterns is a hallmark of the tradition's commitment to visual harmony.

Owning a Turkaman rug is more than just a purchase; it is an investment in a storied craft. These pieces are collected for their enduring beauty and the high level of skill required to produce them, ensuring that they retain their cultural value and aesthetic appeal throughout the decades.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that reflects hundreds of hours of focused, patient effort. Each individual knot is tied by hand to the cotton foundation, ensuring a structure that is both remarkably durable and physically substantial.

The weight of 9.2 kg across its 190 x 138 cm dimensions is a testament to the density of the Wool used and the sheer volume of labour invested in its creation. This density is the primary driver of the rug's longevity, creating a floor covering that is built to withstand daily use while maintaining its elegant appearance.

By choosing a hand-knotted piece, you are supporting a craft tradition where quality is measured by the precision of each knot. The time and physical effort required to complete a rug of this quality ensure that it possesses a character and structural integrity that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match.
