Tabriz PatinaHand KnottedRug

Brown / Orange130 x 184 cm

Tabriz rugs hail from one of the oldest weaving centres in the Middle East, a city with a history of rug production that dates back centuries. Located in the northwest of the region, Tabriz has long served as a vibrant hub on the Silk Road, facilitating the exchange of artistic ideas and techniques between different cultures and civilisations.

The term Tabriz is synonymous with a tradition of high-level craftsmanship. Weavers in this region are known for their ability to adapt to changing artistic trends while maintaining the core principles of their heritage. This versatility has allowed the Tabriz style to evolve into a diverse category, encompassing everything from highly detailed floral patterns to more geometric and tribal-influenced designs.

Signature elements of this tradition often include a central medallion, which serves as the focal point of the composition, surrounded by elaborate borders and secondary motifs. The use of colour in these rugs is typically harmonious, with natural dyes historically playing a key role in creating the characteristic depth and richness that collectors admire.

Owning a piece from this tradition means connecting with a legacy that has been refined over generations. These rugs are highly valued for their artistic depth and the skill required to produce them, making them not just floor coverings, but storied objects that carry the cultural prestige and aesthetic values of their origin.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill. By carefully tying each individual knot by hand, the artisans ensure a level of structural integrity and pattern precision that simply cannot be achieved by machines.

With a total weight of 9.8 kg spread across its 184 x 130 cm frame, this rug demonstrates the substantial amount of material and labour invested in its creation. This density is a testament to the artisan's dedication, resulting in a robust, high-quality piece that is built to endure.

The time and human effort required to complete such a complex piece are significant, reflecting the deep expertise involved in every stage of production. This dedication to craft ensures that the final product is not only visually stunning but also physically enduring and capable of maintaining its form and texture over many years.
