Tabriz rugs originate from one of the oldest rug-weaving centres in the Middle East, located in the historic city of Tabriz. This region has been a hub of artistic innovation for centuries, serving as a crossroads for trade and culture along the ancient Silk Road. The traditions developed here have set the standard for high-quality weaving across the globe.
The term 50 Raj refers to the traditional measurement of knot density per 7 cm of the rug's width. This system is a hallmark of Tabriz craftsmanship, indicating a high level of refinement and technical expertise. A 50 Raj rug is considered a sophisticated piece, as it requires a finer thread and more precise hand movements to achieve the desired detail and density.
Design-wise, Tabriz rugs are celebrated for their diverse and ornate patterns. They often feature complex central medallions surrounded by elaborate floral arrangements, vines, and leaves. This particular runner showcases a masterful balance of these elements, with a formal border that frames the central field, reflecting the classic aesthetic that collectors have admired for generations.
Owning a piece from this tradition is a connection to a deep heritage of craftsmanship. Tabriz rugs are highly valued for their ability to blend technical precision with artistic beauty, making them not just floor coverings, but legacy items. They are collected by those who appreciate the patience, skill, and cultural history embedded in every single knot.
