This authentic, one-of-a-kind Shirvan rug from Turkey brings rich heritage and vibrant artistry to your living space, offering a tactile warmth that only a hand-knotted piece can provide.

This exquisite Shirvan rug, crafted in Turkey around 1980, serves as a stunning focal point for any room. Its generous size and rich, Wool pile offer a comforting, soft surface underfoot, providing both warmth and sound absorption that enhances the calm atmosphere of your home.

The rug features a sophisticated design defined by its intricate, geometric medallion and balanced, decorative borders. The interplay of deep reds, soft blues, and warm beige creates a visual harmony that feels both grounded and elegant, making it a versatile choice for various interior settings.

As a truly one-of-a-kind piece, this rug carries a narrative all its own. Because it is individually hand-knotted, no two rugs are ever identical, ensuring that when you choose this piece, you are acquiring a work of textile art that will never be replicated exactly again.

Living with this rug means experiencing the lasting quality of traditional Turkish craftsmanship. Its dense, durable construction is designed to withstand daily life while maintaining its beauty, becoming a cherished part of your home environment for years to come.

The Shirvan tradition originates from the historic region of the same name in the eastern Caucasus, an area renowned for centuries as a centre of exceptional weaving. While the style takes its name from these roots, the tradition has been carried forward by generations of weavers in Turkey who maintain these distinct design principles.

Shirvan rugs are highly regarded for their technical precision. The term refers not just to a visual style but to a specific, disciplined approach to knotting that results in a firm, durable, and refined fabric. This attention to detail is what allows the complex, angular motifs to remain sharp and clear even after decades of use.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their sophisticated use of space. They often feature a central medallion or a series of repeating geometric motifs, such as stars or latch-hook forms, set against a field of rich, saturated colour. The borders are typically complex, featuring stylised floral elements or geometric chains that frame the central design.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a long-standing heritage of craftsmanship. These rugs are not merely floor coverings but are collected for their cultural weight and the undeniable skill required to produce them, representing a commitment to preserving traditional artistic techniques.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a labour-intensive process that ensures exceptional durability and precision. The creation of such a piece involves hundreds of thousands of individual knots, a testament to the patience and expertise required to bring this complex geometric pattern to life.

With a density of 360,000 knots per m2, the construction of this rug is exceptionally fine. This high knot count allows for the crisp, clean lines of the medallions and borders, while also creating a dense, resilient pile that holds its shape and structure over time.

The significant weight of 17.3 kg reflects the high volume of premium Wool used throughout the piece. This substantial construction is a hallmark of quality, providing a grounded feel and confirming the extensive human effort invested in every square centimetre of this unique, hand-crafted floor covering.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
