Shiraz rugs originate from the Fars province in the Middle Eastern region, a territory with a profound history of nomadic and semi-nomadic weaving. These rugs are traditionally associated with the Qashqai and other tribal groups who have migrated through the area for centuries, carrying their design language with them.

The construction of these rugs is deeply rooted in tribal tradition, often utilising a Wool foundation that provides the necessary strength and flexibility for the nomadic lifestyle. This heritage of using high-quality Wool ensures that the rugs remain resilient while developing a beautiful character as they age.

Visually, the Shiraz tradition is celebrated for its geometric motifs, often featuring stylised medallions and repeating patterns that represent the natural world or ancestral symbols. The use of bold colours, particularly rich reds, is a hallmark of this style, creating a striking contrast against the intricate, often angular designs found within the borders.

Collecting a Shiraz rug is an opportunity to own a piece of cultural heritage that embodies the skill and spirit of its weavers. These rugs are valued not only for their aesthetic beauty but also for the stories they tell through their motifs, making them a meaningful addition for anyone who appreciates the history of traditional textile arts.

This rug is carefully hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time to ensure every detail is captured with precision. The construction process involves thousands of individual knots, resulting in a robust and long-lasting pile that retains its shape and beauty through daily use.

With a weight of 12.1 kg across its 284 x 142 cm surface, this rug demonstrates a high density of material that speaks to the level of labour and dedication invested in its creation. This weight is a testament to the quality of the Wool used throughout the foundation and pile, providing a sturdy, high-quality floor covering.

The time and human effort required to complete such a piece are substantial, reflecting a tradition of craft that values quality over speed. By choosing this hand-knotted rug, you are supporting a legacy of weaving that prizes durability, structural integrity, and the distinct touch of the human hand.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean.
