Shiraz

This one-of-a-kind hand-knotted Shiraz rug brings the warmth and rich tribal character of Middle Eastern weaving traditions directly into your home.

This hand-knotted Shiraz rug offers a warm and inviting presence underfoot, making it a comforting addition to any living space. The soft pile provides a pleasant tactile experience, creating a cosy atmosphere while naturally absorbing sound to make your room feel quieter and more relaxed.

Crafted from natural wool, the rug is built to handle the daily rhythms of a busy home. The inherent resilience of the wool fibres ensures that the pile bounces back after footstep pressure, maintaining its soft texture and beautiful appearance over years of use.

As a truly one-of-a-kind piece, this rug carries a unique character that cannot be replicated. When you welcome this piece into your home, you are acquiring an individual work of art with its own distinct variations, ensuring that no one else will ever own the exact same rug.

Originating from the Middle East, this Shiraz rug brings an authentic sense of provenance and charm to your interior. Its deep colour palette and expressive design serve as a beautiful focal point, grounding your furniture and tying the room together.

Shiraz rugs find their historical roots in the southwestern region of the Middle East, particularly around the ancient city of Shiraz in the Fars province. Woven primarily by nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes, these rugs reflect a lifestyle deeply connected to the land and seasonal migrations.

The weaving tradition relies on ancestral tribal techniques where artisans knot the pile onto a wool foundation. This specific construction method gives Shiraz rugs their characteristic flexible handle and rustic feel, distinguishing them from the more rigid workshop rugs of larger urban centres.

The visual language of these rugs is defined by bold geometric patterns, often featuring central diamond-shaped medallions and stylised plant or animal motifs. Rich dark red tones combined with deep blues and contrasting ivory details form the traditional colour palette, telling stories of tribal identity and natural surroundings.

Highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike, Shiraz rugs are celebrated for their authentic charm and individual artistic expression. Owning a piece from this tradition means bringing a living slice of nomadic culture into your home, representing generations of shared knowledge and creative pride.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a traditional technique that demands immense patience and skill. An artisan sits before a vertical loom, tying each individual knot by hand to build the pattern and pile row by row, ensuring a level of strength and character that machine production can never match.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, this rug contains approximately 277,440 individual hand-tied knots across its 170 by 102 cm surface. This steady, dense knotting requires weeks of focused work, resulting in a clear definition of the geometric patterns and a compact pile that stands up exceptionally well to wear.

Weighing 5.2 kg, the rug has a substantial and grounded feel on the floor, reflecting the generous amount of natural wool used in its construction. This weight, combined with the tight hand-knotting, ensures the rug lies flat and stays securely in place, offering long-lasting stability and comfort.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
