Senneh rugs hail from the mountainous regions of the Middle East, specifically from the city known today as Sanandaj. This area has long been a hub for weaving, where artisans have refined their craft over centuries to produce textiles that are celebrated for their unique aesthetic and structural integrity. The tradition here is deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of the region, reflecting the landscapes and artistic sensibilities of the people who call it home.

The term Senneh refers to a specific technique where the weave is notably fine and dense. This approach allows for a level of detail in the design that is rarely seen in other traditions. The pile is constructed to be both resilient and soft, a balance achieved through the careful tension of the materials during the knotting process. This technical proficiency is what gives these rugs their long-lasting quality and their reputation among collectors.

Visually, Senneh rugs are famous for their sophisticated use of space. They often feature a central medallion or a repeated all-over pattern, typically inspired by floral motifs and intricate geometric shapes. The borders are usually narrow and elegant, framing the field in a way that creates a sense of harmony. The colour palettes are often rich and saturated, drawing on natural dyes that have been used in the region for generations.

Collectors value Senneh rugs for their artistic weight and the skill required to produce them. Owning one is a way to connect with a storied tradition of craftsmanship that has survived the passage of time. These rugs are not just floor coverings but are considered cultural heritage, representing a level of dedication that is increasingly rare in the modern world.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that requires immense patience and precision. Each individual knot is tied by hand, resulting in a dense, durable pile that maintains its integrity over time. The time and human effort required for such a piece are significant, as a skilled artisan spends weeks carefully constructing the design knot by knot.

The quality of this rug is evidenced by its sturdy build and substantial weight of 3.1 kg. This density is a direct result of the complex, manual weaving technique used to create the foundation. By investing in such careful craftsmanship, you are ensuring that your rug is not just a floor covering, but a durable piece of art that reflects the dedication of its maker.
