Senneh rugs originate from the historic town of Sanandaj in the Middle East, a region renowned for its deep-rooted weaving traditions. These rugs are celebrated for their sophisticated aesthetic and the remarkable skill of the weavers who have preserved these techniques through generations.

The term Senneh refers to a specific, highly refined weaving style that emphasises delicacy and precision. The weaving process involves a unique approach to knotting that results in a remarkably smooth and uniform pile, which allows the intricate, often geometric or floral designs to appear with striking clarity.

A signature element of this tradition is the inclusion of elaborate, finely detailed medallions and complex repeating patterns. These designs are often framed by ornate, multi-layered borders that demonstrate a mastery of symmetry and balance, reflecting the cultural significance and artistic pride of the region.

Owning a Senneh rug is a way to connect with a storied tradition of craftsmanship. Collectors value these pieces not only for their visual impact but also for the heritage they represent. By bringing one into your home, you are preserving a legacy of skill and cultural expression that remains as relevant today as it was centuries ago.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time and expertise to every single stitch. The process involves a deep understanding of traditional weaving, where individual knots are tied onto a sturdy foundation to create a dense, resilient pile that stands the test of time.

The complexity of the pattern and the density of the knotting reflect the intensive labour required to bring this piece to life. Given its generous dimensions and the thousands of precise knots involved, this rug represents weeks of focused, human-centred work that simply cannot be achieved by modern mechanical means.

The weight of 24.4 kg is a testament to the amount of material and the sheer effort invested in its creation. This substantial weight signals a dense, high-quality construction that provides both durability and a luxurious feel, ensuring that the rug remains stable and retains its shape over many years of use.
