Senneh rugs originate from the city of Sanandaj, which was historically known as Senneh, located in the mountainous region of the Middle East. This area has long been a hub for refined craft, where weavers have cultivated a distinct style characterised by elegance and technical precision.

These rugs are celebrated for their sophisticated weaving techniques, which often result in a pile that is exceptionally uniform. The tradition emphasises fine, tight knotting, which allows for the creation of delicate patterns and subtle colour transitions that are hallmarks of the regional style.

The visual language of a Senneh rug is typically defined by a central medallion, often surrounded by the iconic herati pattern—a floral motif consisting of a diamond shape framing a flower, flanked by four acanthus-like leaves. This design is balanced by intricate borders that frame the field, reflecting a long-standing commitment to geometric harmony.

Collecting a Senneh rug is an investment in a storied tradition of artistry. These pieces are highly valued by enthusiasts for their ability to blend complex decorative elements with a sturdy construction, serving as a bridge between historical weaving practices and the needs of a modern home.

This piece is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and a high degree of skill. By securing each knot individually, artisans create a foundation that is both incredibly sturdy and capable of holding complex, sharp designs that remain crisp over decades of wear.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the rug reflects a significant investment of time and human effort. This level of craftsmanship results in a pile that is dense, luxurious, and highly resistant to daily use, providing a premium quality that is evident from the moment you step onto it.

The weight of 8 kg across its 158 x 127 cm frame serves as a testament to the quality and density of the materials used. This substantial construction ensures the rug lays flat and maintains its shape, reflecting the dedication and expertise poured into every square centimetre of its creation.
