SennehHand KnottedRug

Beige / Red105 x 144 cm

The Senneh rug tradition originates from the mountainous regions of the Middle East, specifically centred around the city of Sanandaj. Historically, this region has been a hub for refined textile arts, where weavers developed a distinct style characterised by intricate, delicate patterns that often draw inspiration from local floral motifs and geometric arrangements.

Technically, Senneh rugs are renowned for their sophisticated construction. The term refers to a specific approach to knotting that allows for finer detail and more complex designs. By using a denser knot structure, artisans are able to create patterns with sharp, crisp lines that remain vibrant and legible even after years of use.

Visually, these rugs are often identified by their elaborate field designs. While some feature repetitive patterns, others display central medallions or complex all-over designs that evoke a sense of balance and harmony. The use of a rich, warm colour palette, particularly deep reds and soft beiges, is a hallmark of this tradition, designed to bring life and warmth to an interior space.

Collectors value Senneh rugs for their exceptional blend of durability and artistic expression. Owning a piece from this tradition is more than just acquiring a floor covering; it is an investment in a storied craft that has been passed down through generations. These rugs serve as a testament to the skill of the weaver and the enduring appeal of traditional Middle Eastern design.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time to each piece. The process begins with setting up a firm foundation, onto which thousands of individual knots are tied by hand to create the dense, durable pile that defines this high-quality rug.

With a weight of 6 kg, this piece demonstrates a dense construction that speaks to the amount of material and labour invested in its creation. Every knot is placed with precision, ensuring the pattern remains sharp and clear while providing the structural integrity needed for the rug to last for generations.

The commitment to traditional hand-knotting techniques ensures a level of quality that machines simply cannot replicate. By choosing this rug, you are supporting a craft tradition that values patience and human skill over mass production, resulting in a floor covering that is as resilient as it is beautiful.
