Sarouk rugs originate from the Markazi region of the Middle East, specifically taking their name from the village of Sarouk near the city of Arak. Historically, this region became a prominent hub for carpet production, renowned for creating durable and visually captivating rugs that gained international appreciation during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The traditional crafting method relies on hand-knotting techniques using sturdy wool foundations. The dense pile construction characteristic of classic Sarouk workshops ensures that the rugs withstand generations of daily use while maintaining their characteristic rich lustre and soft feel.

A signature design feature of Sarouk carpets is the central floral medallion surrounded by elaborate scrolling vines and botanical motifs, typically set against a deep red or rose field with contrasting ivory borders. This botanical language draws inspiration from classical garden designs, creating a balanced and harmonious visual rhythm.

Collecting antique Sarouk rugs connects the modern home with a rich heritage of artisan skill and cultural storytelling. Owning a piece of this vintage calibre means preserving a tangible link to traditional craftsmanship that continues to be valued by collectors worldwide.

This rug is entirely handmade through traditional hand-knotted techniques, representing hundreds of hours of skilled human labour. Artisans carefully tie each individual knot by hand, a meticulous process that ensures structural integrity and pattern precision no machine can replicate.

With a density of 250,000 knots per square metre across a large surface area of 494 by 261 cm, the total construction comprises roughly 6,438,250 knots. A project of this scale requires months of dedicated craftsmanship from experienced weavers whose knowledge has been passed down through generations.

Weighing 38.7 kg, the substantial construction reflects a generous use of quality wool and a tightly packed foundation. This weight and density ensure the rug stays securely in place on your floor while providing a thick, supportive cushion that will last for decades.
