PatchworkHand KnottedRug

Dark grey / BeigeRoundØ 249 cm

Patchwork rugs represent a fascinating evolution in textile history, emerging from the tradition of repurposing and honouring the beauty of older, hand-knotted carpets. By selecting high-quality fragments from various sources, this style celebrates the longevity of wool and the artistry of traditional weaving, giving new life to pieces that have already stood the test of time.

The construction of a patchwork rug requires a deep understanding of textile geometry and colour theory. Each fragment is chosen not only for its hue but for the texture and age of its weave. This careful assembly process transforms individual, often disparate elements into a cohesive, modern design that respects the legacy of the original materials while adapting them for a contemporary home.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their vibrant, grid-like composition. While traditional rugs often feature central medallions or elaborate floral borders, the patchwork style breaks these motifs into smaller, modular components. This creates a rhythmic, colourful surface where the history of each square—perhaps once part of a larger, traditional carpet—is still visible in the subtle variations of the pile and colour.

Owning a piece like this is a commitment to sustainability and cultural appreciation. It is valued by collectors for its ability to bridge the gap between historical craft and modern interior design. Each rug serves as a testament to the skill involved in salvaging and reimagining heritage textiles, making it a meaningful addition to any space that values authenticity and artistic depth.

This rug is a masterpiece of hand-knotted construction, a labour-intensive process that ensures exceptional durability and strength. Each individual square is expertly joined to create a seamless yet textured surface, reflecting the dedication and precision of the artisan who brought it to life.

With a substantial weight of 16.1 kg, this rug demonstrates a high density of materials, signalling the significant time and physical effort invested in its creation. A piece of this size and complexity requires weeks of focused work, as the artisan must carefully align each fragment to maintain the rug's structural integrity and visual rhythm.

The commitment to traditional hand-knotting techniques means that this rug is not just a floor covering but a testament to enduring craft. By prioritising such a careful construction method, the rug achieves a level of resilience that allows it to maintain its form and beauty even after years of daily use.
