Pakistan Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown65 x 100 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, a historical hub for trade and textile arts. While the design lineage traces back to these nomadic roots, the finest examples today are woven in Pakistan, where artisans have perfected the craft over generations.

The '2ply' designation is a mark of quality, referring to the use of two strands of wool twisted together to form the pile. This specific construction technique results in a more lustrous finish and a denser, longer-lasting pile compared to single-ply alternatives, ensuring the rug feels substantial and luxurious.

The visual language of this tradition is defined by the iconic gul motif, which appears here as repeating geometric medallions arranged in a rhythmic, orderly fashion. These symbols are enclosed by detailed, ornate borders that frame the field, showcasing the meticulous balance and symmetry characteristic of these classic designs.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a storied craft heritage. These rugs are highly valued by collectors not just for their aesthetic appeal, but for the human skill and cultural history woven into every knot, representing a standard of quality that transcends fleeting trends.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill from the artisan. With approximately 10,400 individual knots placed by hand across its surface, the creation of this piece is a testament to traditional techniques that prioritise precision and longevity.

The 1.6 kg weight of this rug reflects the significant amount of material used to create its dense, durable pile. This density not only enhances the clarity of the geometric motifs but also ensures the rug can withstand daily use while remaining a central, beautiful feature in your home.
