NajafabadHand KnottedRug

Brown / Black293 x 424 cm

The Najafabad rug tradition originates from the city of Najafabad, located in the central region of the Middle East. This area has long been a hub for textile production, deeply influenced by the artistic legacy of neighbouring weaving centres while developing its own distinct visual identity that favours balanced, harmonious compositions.

Najafabad rugs are celebrated for their technical excellence, often utilising a robust foundation that supports a thick, resilient pile. This specific construction technique allows for the longevity that these rugs are known for, making them a preferred choice for those who value both aesthetic beauty and structural integrity in their floor coverings.

Visually, these rugs are defined by a classic medallion structure, often surrounded by elaborate floral arrangements and scrolling vines. The borders are typically wide and highly detailed, creating a formal frame that directs the eye toward the centre of the piece, where the intricate patterns are most dense.

Collectors value Najafabad rugs for their consistent quality and the cultural weight they carry. Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a long-standing heritage of weaving that prioritises symmetry, depth of colour, and the mastery of complex, flowing designs.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that involves thousands of hours of skilled effort. By carefully placing each knot by hand, the artisans ensure that the design remains sharp and the pile is exceptionally dense and durable.

With a knot density of 160,000 knots per m2, the construction of this piece is exceptionally robust. This high count is essential for achieving the fluid curves of the floral patterns and ensuring that the rug provides a consistent, high-quality feel that will endure for decades.

The significant weight of 43.5 kg reflects the generous amount of high-quality Wool used in its construction. This density not only contributes to the rug's durability but also ensures it stays firmly in place, providing a stable and high-quality foundation for your home.
