Dark red / Black198 x 304 cm

The Moud rug tradition originates from the Khorasan province in the Middle East, a region with a deep and storied history of textile production. Moud rugs are celebrated for their distinctive aesthetic, which often balances formal structure with a delicate, flowing artistic sensibility that reflects the cultural heritage of the area.

The term Sherkat Farsh refers to a specific, highly regarded institution in the region that oversees and maintains quality standards for traditional rug weaving. This organisation plays a crucial role in preserving the historic techniques and motifs that have been passed down through generations, ensuring that each rug upholds the legacy of the Moud craft.

Visually, these rugs are frequently defined by their sophisticated use of floral motifs and central medallions, often set against a deep blue or red field. The borders are typically intricate, featuring repeating patterns that frame the central design and create a sense of harmony and balance that is characteristic of the finest Middle Eastern rug traditions.

Owning a piece from this tradition is a way to connect with a history of patience and skill. These rugs are highly valued by collectors and enthusiasts alike, not just for their aesthetic appeal, but as symbols of a craft that prioritises longevity and the preservation of ancient design languages.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to bring the design to life. The process involves tying each individual knot by hand onto a sturdy Cotton foundation, a traditional technique that ensures the rug is built to last for generations.

With a total of approximately 1.5 million knots placed throughout the 304 x 198 cm surface, the sheer human effort required is significant. This level of density not only contributes to the weight of 22.3 kg but also guarantees a robust construction that stands up to the demands of everyday life.

The precision of the knotting process allows for the complex, flowing motifs that define this piece. By investing this much time and skill into every square centimetre, the artisans create a product of superior quality that balances artistic beauty with long-term functional durability.
