MoudHand KnottedRug

Brown / Black250 x 350 cm

Moud rugs originate from the historic region of Khorasan in the northeast of the Middle East, a town renowned for producing some of the most detailed and distinctive weavings in the world. This regional style has evolved over centuries, blending local nomadic influences with sophisticated workshop techniques to create rugs of exceptional character.

A defining characteristic of many Moud rugs is the use of the classic panel or garden design, where the field is divided into a structured grid. Each individual square within the grid acts as a miniature canvas, telling its own visual story through finely detailed motifs.

The visual language of this tradition is rich with symbolic imagery, featuring delicate floral patterns, weeping willows, and traditional cypress trees within the panels. Framed by a beautifully detailed border, the harmonious balance of deep reds and soft beige tones creates a sophisticated aesthetic that has captivated collectors for generations.

Acquiring a Moud rug is more than just selecting a floor covering; it is welcoming a piece of living history into your home. Highly valued for their robust construction and artistic depth, these rugs are cherished by enthusiasts who appreciate the profound skill and cultural heritage woven into every square decimetre.

Every single knot of this rug has been tied by hand, a traditional process requiring immense patience, skill, and physical dedication. This time-honoured technique ensures that each knot is securely locked in place, creating a structurally superior pile that machine-made rugs simply cannot replicate.

With a substantial weight of 32.4 kg spread across its generous 350 x 250 cm dimensions, this rug is a physical testament to the sheer volume of natural wool and human effort invested in its creation. The impressive weight indicates a highly dense construction, meaning more material was packed into the weave to ensure maximum durability and a plush feel underfoot.

The creation of a hand-knotted piece of this scale takes several months of focused work by skilled artisans. This slow, deliberate production process guarantees a level of structural integrity that allows the rug to withstand decades of use while retaining its original beauty and shape.
