Mehraban rugs originate from the Hamadan region in the Middle Eastern heartland, an area renowned for its deep-rooted weaving traditions. These rugs are born from a culture that views weaving as a vital form of self-expression, where patterns are often passed down through generations, reflecting the specific identity and history of local village life.

The term hand-knotted signifies a construction method where every individual knot is tied by hand, a hallmark of quality that distinguishes these rugs from mass-produced alternatives. This traditional approach creates a robust foundation that improves with age, allowing the Wool to develop a beautiful patina that enhances the character of the rug over time.

Visually, Mehraban rugs are celebrated for their sophisticated floral arrangements and geometric interpretations. They often feature a central medallion or repeating floral motifs set against a deep, vibrant field. The precise use of borders frames these designs, creating a sense of balance and harmony that is characteristic of this esteemed regional style.

Collecting a Mehraban rug is an investment in cultural heritage and human skill. These pieces are valued not only for their aesthetic beauty but for the narrative they carry, representing a bridge between ancient techniques and contemporary living. Owning one is a way to honour a craft that has sustained communities for centuries.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision. By individually tying each knot onto the foundation, the artisan ensures a structural integrity that allows the rug to lie flat and retain its shape for years to come.

The 360,000 knots per m2 density results in a remarkably clear and sharp pattern. This high level of detail is only possible through thousands of hours of dedicated work, reflecting a level of expertise that ensures the rug remains a durable, high-quality addition to your home.

With a total weight of 12.7 kg, this piece demonstrates the substantial amount of Wool used in its construction. This weight is a direct indicator of the density and quality of the materials, providing a heavy, stable base that speaks to the commitment of the weaver in producing a rug built to last.
