MehrabanHand KnottedRug

Brown / BlackRunner78 x 268 cm

Mehraban rugs originate from a storied weaving tradition in a region of the Middle East known for its exceptional skill in creating durable and visually complex floor coverings. These rugs are deeply connected to the local landscape and the artistic heritage of the communities that have produced them for generations.

The craft of these rugs relies on traditional techniques passed down through families, focusing on a harmonious balance between the complexity of the design and the robustness of the materials. The use of Wool, chosen for its strength and ability to take rich dyes, is central to the longevity and depth of colour found in these pieces.

A signature element of this style is the intricate, often floral-inspired ornamentation that flows across the field. You will frequently find stylised vines, blossoms, and central medallions that reflect a sophisticated approach to symmetry and balance, often framed by decorative, detailed borders.

Owning a Mehraban rug is an invitation to bring a piece of cultural history into your living space. These rugs are highly regarded by collectors not only for their aesthetic beauty but for the immense human effort and artistic intention embedded in every single knot.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires significant time and focus to ensure every detail of the floral design is preserved. By tying each individual knot by hand, the weaver creates a structure that is both resilient and flexible.

The substantial weight of 10.5 kg for this 268 x 78 cm runner speaks to the volume of high-quality Wool used in its construction. This density ensures that the rug remains stable on your floor while providing a plush, durable surface that will maintain its beauty for many years.

The time-intensive nature of hand-knotting results in a rug with integrity and character. Every knot reflects a human touch that machines simply cannot replicate, making this not just a floor covering, but a lasting piece of functional art.
