Mashad rugs originate from the city of Mashad in the Middle Eastern region, a centre known for its historical significance and long-standing rug-weaving traditions. The region has long been celebrated for producing some of the most sophisticated designs, often characterised by their deep, saturated tones and complex, flowing patterns that reflect centuries of artistic evolution.

The craftsmanship found in these rugs is defined by a dedication to detail that relies on traditional techniques passed down through generations. These methods ensure that every rug is built to last, with a focus on creating a durable foundation and a pile that feels both dense and supple, providing a quality that is immediately apparent to the touch.

Signature design elements in Mashad rugs typically include a central medallion surrounded by a sea of intricate floral motifs and scrolling vine patterns. These designs are often encased in a wide, ornate border that frames the composition perfectly. The use of deep red and blue tones is a hallmark of this tradition, creating a sense of balance and classic elegance.

Owning a piece from this tradition is about more than just decoration, it is about acquiring a fragment of cultural heritage. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their consistency in quality and their ability to anchor a room with a sense of gravity and sophistication that mass-produced alternatives simply cannot match.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate countless hours to ensuring each knot is placed with precision. With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the construction is remarkably robust, resulting in a pile that is not only dense and luxurious but also capable of withstanding heavy traffic while retaining its form.

The weight of 42.9 kg across its large 390 x 297 cm surface area serves as a testament to the significant amount of material and labour invested in its creation. This level of density requires a high degree of technical expertise, ensuring the pattern remains defined and the rug remains stable on your floor for generations to come.
