MashadHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Black254 x 345 cm

The Mashad rug tradition hails from one of the most significant religious and cultural centres in the Middle East. Located in the northeastern part of the region, Mashad has long been a hub for master weavers who draw upon a vast repertoire of classical decorative motifs.

These rugs are distinguished by their balanced composition, often featuring a prominent central medallion surrounded by dense floral sprays. The influence of traditional court designs is evident in the harmonious flow of the patterns, which are typically contained within a wide, ornate border.

The colour palette of a Mashad rug is iconic, frequently utilising deep reds and rich blues. These colours are traditionally achieved through meticulous dyeing processes, resulting in vibrant yet nuanced shades that provide a sense of warmth and depth to any interior.

Collectors value these rugs for their combination of artistic vision and robust construction. Owning a piece from this tradition is a commitment to preserving a craft that has been passed down through generations, representing a bridge between ancient decorative arts and modern living.

This rug is created through traditional hand-knotted techniques that require immense skill and patience. By tying each knot individually, artisans ensure a level of structural integrity and pattern clarity that simply cannot be achieved by machines.

The dense construction of this piece, weighing 36.8 kg, reflects the substantial amount of high-quality material and time invested in its creation. A rug of this size and weight represents hundreds of hours of focused labour by experienced weavers.

The precision required in this hand-knotted process results in a pile that is exceptionally durable and resilient. This thoughtful approach to production ensures that the rug maintains its shape and visual appeal even in high-traffic areas of the home.
