The Loribaft rug tradition finds its roots in the nomadic cultures of the Middle East, specifically among the tribal groups who have passed down weaving knowledge through generations. These rugs were historically created for practical use within tents, serving as warm bedding and floor coverings that could withstand the rigours of a migratory lifestyle.

The term 'Loribaft' refers to a specific style of weaving that emphasises a thicker, softer pile compared to many other regional types. This approach requires a masterful balance of tension and knot placement, resulting in a rug that feels remarkably luxurious and heavy. The Wool used is often locally sourced and hand-spun, which gives the finished piece a slight natural variance that collectors find particularly appealing.

Visually, these rugs are known for their deep, saturated colours, often achieved through natural dyes derived from plants and minerals. While they can feature intricate tribal motifs, the 'Fine' variety often leans into more understated, minimalist designs that highlight the quality of the Wool and the depth of the colour. The striped transitions seen in this piece are a hallmark of the weaver's ability to blend shades seamlessly.

Owning a Loribaft rug is an opportunity to connect with a long-standing craft heritage. These pieces are valued not only for their aesthetic beauty but for the immense skill and cultural history they represent. They are considered investment pieces that bring a sense of history and human connection into a modern home, standing as a testament to the enduring nature of tribal craftsmanship.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to its creation. The process involves tying thousands of individual knots to build the foundation and pile, a labour-intensive technique that ensures structural integrity and a long-lasting, dense surface.

With a weight of 4 kg for this size, the rug demonstrates a solid, substantial construction that speaks to the quality of the materials used. The precision of the hand-knotting process is what allows for such a consistent, plush texture, creating a resilient piece that is built to maintain its appearance through daily use.
