Kilim rugs are a central part of Middle Eastern weaving traditions, celebrated for their flat-woven construction and versatile design. Historically, these rugs were created by nomadic tribes as functional items for their tents, serving as floor coverings, blankets, and storage bags due to their durability and ease of transport.

The term Kilim refers to a specific tapestry-weave technique where the weft threads are tightly packed to cover the warp threads entirely. This method results in a durable, reversible fabric that does not have a pile, making it distinct from knotted rugs. This construction style is prized for its longevity and its ability to withstand the rigours of daily life.

Design traditions in this region often emphasise geometric motifs and earthy tones, which reflect the natural landscapes of Afghanistan. The inclusion of decorative details on a field of Wool provides a sophisticated look that is both timeless and adaptable to many different home interiors.

Owning a Kilim is a way to connect with a rich history of craft. These rugs are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their ability to bring a sense of heritage and human touch into a modern living space. Each piece represents the individual expression of the weaver and the cultural legacy of their community.

This runner is meticulously hand-woven by skilled artisans, a process that requires patience and a deep understanding of textile traditions. The creation of such a piece involves careful planning and precise tension management to ensure the structural integrity of the flat-woven foundation.

With a weight of 10.3 kg, this runner demonstrates a dense and substantial construction. This weight is a direct result of the high volume of Wool used, which ensures that the rug remains stable on your floor and maintains its shape over time despite daily wear.

The effort invested in every centimetre of this runner is evident in its uniform texture and the quality of the finish. By choosing a hand-woven rug, you are investing in a level of dedication and human skill that mass-produced alternatives simply cannot replicate.
