KeshanHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Dark grey200 x 298 cm

Keshan rugs represent one of the most famous and respected weaving traditions in the Middle East. Originating from an ancient city that served as a key trading post along the historic Silk Road, these rugs have been admired for centuries for their artistic harmony and exceptional craftsmanship.

The name Keshan is synonymous with classical balance and structural integrity. Weavers in this region have long been celebrated for their ability to create highly detailed patterns that remain clear and cohesive, even across larger dimensions, using locally sourced wool of outstanding quality.

This particular piece features a classic all-over floral design, showcasing delicate scrolling vines and palmette motifs that flow across the rich red field. Framed by a deep dark-blue border, the design displays the intricate symmetry and floral elegance that define the traditional Keshan aesthetic.

Owning a Keshan rug means bringing a piece of living history into your home. These rugs are highly valued by collectors and design enthusiasts alike for their ability to blend historical character with modern living, serving as a lasting investment in traditional craftsmanship.

Every detail of this Keshan rug has been created entirely by hand using traditional hand-knotting techniques. This highly skilled process requires the weaver to tie each individual knot by hand, a method that demands immense patience, precision, and decades of training.

With a substantial weight of 22.1 kg for its 298 x 200 cm size, this rug demonstrates an exceptionally dense and robust construction. The sheer volume of wool woven into this piece indicates the months of intensive physical labour required to complete it, resulting in a heavy, stable rug that lies flat on your floor.

This dedicated hand-making process ensures that the rug is built to last for generations. Unlike machine-made alternatives, hand-knotted rugs possess a structural strength where each knot secures the next, making it a highly durable piece that can withstand decades of daily use.
