Keshan FineHand KnottedRug

Red / Grey250 x 357 cm

Keshan rugs originate from the historic city of Kashan in Persia, a legendary hub along ancient trade routes known for centuries of master weaving. Weavers in this region developed a reputation for producing some of the most refined floor coverings in the world, utilising techniques passed down through generations of families.

The tradition relies on fine wool yarns spun to achieve an ideal balance of softness and resilience. Using 100% natural wool allows the pile to take rich, lasting tones while providing a durable surface that naturally resists everyday wear in active households.

Visually, traditional Keshan pieces are defined by a central ornate medallion surrounded by elaborate floral motifs, intricate scrolling vines, and structured border guards. This particular piece captures that classic aesthetic, balancing flowing organic forms with a formal symmetry that anchors a room.

Collecting a rug from this tradition means bringing home a piece of living heritage. The skill required to knot such intricate designs reflects a deep cultural dedication to craftsmanship, offering you a durable work of art that honours centuries of artisanal history.

This rug is entirely handmade through a traditional hand-knotted technique, representing months of meticulous labour by skilled artisans. Each individual knot is tied by hand onto the foundation, ensuring a level of structural integrity and permanence that machines simply cannot replicate.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2 distributed across the 357 x 250 cm dimensions, the artisan has placed hundreds of thousands of individual knots by hand. This intensive process results in a total count of over 2,200,000 knots, accounting for the remarkable weight of 33 kg and the exceptional durability of the pile.

The time and precision invested in tying each strand guarantee a tightly packed pile that resists wear and maintains its clear pattern definition over decades of daily use.
