The Kelardasht region, located in the mountainous areas of the Middle East, is home to a distinct and storied weaving tradition. These rugs are born from a culture that has long valued the connection between the rugged landscape and the domestic environment, resulting in textiles that are as sturdy as they are beautiful.
Kelardasht rugs are known for their characteristic construction, which focuses on a durable, high-quality wool pile. The process of hand-knotting is a central tenet of this tradition, ensuring that each piece is built to be a resilient companion for generations rather than a temporary decorative item.
The visual language of these rugs is defined by strong, geometric motifs. You will frequently find bold, large-scale medallions and angular, stepped diamonds that command attention. The colour palette often leans into earthy, deep tones, with the contrasting shades highlighting the intricate lines and symmetrical borders that frame the central field.
Owning a Kelardasht rug is an investment in a living heritage. These pieces are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their authenticity and the sheer human effort poured into their creation. When you choose a rug from this tradition, you are acquiring a piece of cultural history that celebrates traditional skill and lasting design.
