Kazak FineHand KnottedRug

Red / Brown86 x 142 cm

Kazak rugs originate from the Caucasus region, a mountainous area known for its deep-rooted weaving traditions. While the name historically refers to a specific group of tribal rugs from this area, the tradition has evolved and flourished in Afghanistan, where weavers continue to honour these ancient techniques.

The hallmark of these rugs is their construction, which prioritises durability and depth. The use of Wool, known for its natural lanolin content, ensures a resilient pile that ages gracefully. This material choice is fundamental to the reputation of these rugs as long-lasting, reliable pieces for the modern home.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their bold, geometric language. You will often see repeating medallions, latch-hook motifs, and stylised animals arranged in a balanced, rhythmic fashion. The borders are typically wide and complex, framing the central field with repeating patterns that draw the eye inward.

Collectors value these rugs for their authenticity and the human story behind every knot. Owning a piece from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage, representing a bridge between centuries-old nomadic artistry and contemporary interior design.

This rug is created using traditional hand-knotted techniques that require significant time and skill. By carefully looping and tying each strand of Wool onto the foundation, the artisan ensures a construction that is far more durable than machine-made alternatives.

Given the substantial weight of 3.7 kg for its 142 x 86 cm size, this piece reflects a dense, high-quality construction. This density is a testament to the extensive labour and material used, resulting in a robust rug that holds its shape and beauty through long-term use.
