The Ilam Sherkat Farsh rug represents a storied tradition of weaving that originates from the Middle Eastern region. These rugs are highly regarded for their adherence to classic design principles, often incorporating sophisticated floral patterns and central medallions that have been refined over generations of craft.

The term Sherkat Farsh refers to a renowned manufacturing organisation dedicated to preserving the quality and artistic integrity of traditional rug weaving. Their involvement ensures that each piece adheres to rigorous standards of construction, resulting in a finished product that is as resilient as it is beautiful.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their balanced compositions and harmonious colour palettes. The field is typically adorned with elaborate, flowing floral motifs that emanate from a central medallion, framed by intricate borders that tie the entire design together. This particular piece showcases these elements with great clarity, highlighting the artistry inherent in the Ilam style.

For collectors and enthusiasts, acquiring an Ilam Sherkat Farsh rug is about more than just floor covering. It is an investment in a cultural legacy that prioritises human skill and traditional aesthetics. Owning one offers a connection to a long history of craftsmanship, making it a cherished centrepiece in any home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to bring each piece to life. The process begins by preparing a sturdy cotton foundation, which provides the necessary stability for the intricate knotting that follows.

Every single knot is placed by hand, a labour-intensive technique that allows for the incredible level of detail and sharpness visible in the floral patterns. This density of construction not only ensures the beauty of the design but also guarantees that the rug maintains its structure and integrity over many years of use.

The substantial 5 kg weight of this 158 x 105 cm piece is a testament to the generous amount of high-quality Wool used in its creation. This density of material, combined with the expert hand-knotting process, results in a robust, premium product that stands as a clear example of traditional craftsmanship.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.

Silk

Silk is an exclusive natural fibre that provides a soft and shiny feeling to rugs. The material can also be used to enhance details in wool rugs and in some, silk can make up the entire pile and sometimes even the warp. Elegant rugs with rich details can only be made with silk because other fibres are too thick for this purpose. Silk is a durable and hard-wearing fibre that lasts a long time and becomes more beautiful over time. Due to its sensitivity to liquids, it is advisable to refrain from positioning the rug in areas where there is a high likelihood of moisture or potential spills.
