The Heriz rug tradition hails from the mountainous regions of the Middle East, specifically the area surrounding the town of Heriz. This region has long been celebrated for its distinctive approach to rug making, which often incorporates local wool known for its exceptional durability and soft, resilient texture.

These rugs are defined by their unique construction style, which often features a firm, sturdy foundation. This structural approach is essential for creating the bold, geometric, and large-scale floral patterns that are synonymous with the Heriz tradition, ensuring the designs remain crisp and well-defined even after years of use.

Visually, these rugs are easily identified by their grand, central medallion designs often surrounded by intricate floral vine work and stylized leaves. While many follow a traditional red and blue colour palette, each weaver introduces subtle variations that make every single rug an individual expression of regional artistic language.

Collectors and enthusiasts value these rugs for their combination of rustic, bold aesthetics and high-level craftsmanship. Owning a piece from this tradition signifies an appreciation for a long-standing cultural heritage, where every rug serves as a testament to the skill and creative vision of the artisans who crafted it.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that requires immense skill and patience. By securing each individual knot by hand, the artisan ensures a level of structural integrity and pattern clarity that machines cannot emulate, resulting in a rug that is built to withstand the test of time.

The construction quality is evident in its substantial weight of 40.3 kg, which signals a dense, high-quality pile and a robust foundation. This weight is a direct result of the generous amount of materials and the countless hours of human effort invested in its creation, ensuring a durable finish that feels both premium and substantial.

Because each knot is placed individually by a trained artisan, the entire process of creating a piece of this size can take many months of dedicated work. This careful, slow-paced approach to production is what gives the rug its exceptional durability and its ability to hold its shape and beauty over many years of home use.
