Gabbeh - A Piece of Home Worth Keeping

This one-of-a-kind Gabbeh rug brings warmth and character to your home with its traditional hand-knotted wool craft and charming folk motifs.

This unique Gabbeh rug offers a plush and inviting surface underfoot, crafted entirely from natural wool. Its generous 23 mm thickness provides exceptional comfort, bringing a sense of warmth and quiet groundedness to smaller spaces or cosy reading corners.

Woven by hand in the Middle East, this piece reflects a rich tradition of folk art. The soft wool pile naturally insulates against cold floors while remaining easy to live with day after day.

Because this rug is completely one of a kind, no identical piece exists anywhere else. Owning it means bringing a unique story into your living space that cannot be duplicated or reordered.

The distinctive pictorial design features small animal and tree motifs set against a vibrant yellow backdrop, creating an engaging visual story that feels both personal and deeply rooted in heritage.

Gabbeh rugs originate from nomadic and semi-nomadic weaving communities across the Middle East. Traditionally crafted for personal use within tribal tents rather than for commercial markets, these rugs were designed primarily for warmth, comfort, and everyday utility.

The word Gabbeh translates roughly to raw, natural, or uncut, which speaks to the thick pile and coarse, textured weave that defines the style. Unlike formal city rugs with strict symmetry, Gabbehs are celebrated for their thick wool structure and spontaneous artistic expression.

The visual language of Gabbeh weaving relies on simple geometric forms, trees, and small animal figures representing goats or camels. These symbols traditionally tell personal stories, depict rural surroundings, or signal wishes for good fortune and prosperity.

Today, vintage and semi-antique Gabbehs are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike. Their charming simplicity, durable natural wool, and expressive open fields make them bridge traditional craft and contemporary interior design easily.

Hand knotted using time-honoured techniques, this rug represents hours of patient handwork by skilled artisans. Every strand of wool pile is tied individually into the foundation to build a dense, resilient floor covering.

Weighing 2.9 kg for a compact 90 x 60 cm size, the substantial weight highlights the thick concentration of natural fibers and robust construction invested in its making.

Crafting a traditional Gabbeh requires dedicated focus and artistic freedom. The knots are drawn together tightly by hand, ensuring the plush pile maintains its structure and soft feel over years of use.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
