Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown94 x 152 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road trading post of Bukhara in Central Asia, where nomadic and village weavers once gathered. Over generations, the tradition migrated southward, and today some of the finest examples are crafted by skilled artisans in Pakistan.

The designation 3ply refers to the yarn construction, where three separate strands of wool are twisted together before weaving. This multi-strand approach creates a thicker, more lustrous, and remarkably resilient pile compared to single-ply yarns.

The visual language of this tradition is defined by repeating gul motifs, which are octagonal or elephant-foot medallions arranged in neat rows across the field. While traditional Bokhara rugs are often crafted in rich reds, this distinctive black variation offers a modern twist on a classic design.

Collecting these pieces connects your home to a rich heritage of textile artistry. Owning a hand-knotted rug of this caliber means valuing human skill, cultural tradition, and lasting quality over mass production.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who spend months carefully tying each individual knot by hand. This traditional method requires immense patience, steady hands, and years of experience to achieve an even and durable surface.

With a density of 160000 knots per m2 spread across the 152 x 94 cm dimensions, the makers placed approximately 228,000 individual knots into the foundation. This precise work ensures the pattern remains sharp and the pile stays dense and resilient.

Weighing 4.4 kg, the substantial construction reflects the heavy investment of wool and human labor needed to build a durable, high-quality piece that is made to last for generations.
