Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

BlackRunner82 x 220 cm

Bokhara rugs trace their design roots back along the ancient Silk Road to Central Asia and the city of Bukhara, where nomadic and village weavers developed distinctive geometric repeating motifs. Over generations, these weaving traditions migrated to regions like Pakistan, where local artisans refined the craft into a celebrated art form known for exceptional symmetry and soft, lustrous wool.

The 3ply designation refers to the construction of the pile yarn, which is spun from three individual strands of wool twisted together. This multi-ply twisting creates a thicker, stronger, and more resilient yarn that stands up well to daily foot traffic while maintaining a rich and inviting surface sheen.

The visual language of this tradition is defined by repeating gul motifs, which are stylized, octagonal elephant-foot medallions arranged in neat rows across the field. Framed by orderly geometric borders, these balanced layouts bring a sense of calm structure and traditional elegance to any interior.

Rugs from this lineage are treasured by collectors and homeowners alike for their enduring aesthetic and the immense human skill required to produce them. Owning a piece like this connects your living space to centuries of textile heritage and uncompromising craft standards.

This runner was carefully crafted using traditional hand-knotted techniques, a meticulous process where each individual knot is tied by hand onto the warp foundation by skilled artisans.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2 across its 220 x 82 cm dimensions, this piece comprises approximately 4,510,000 individual knots. Completing a work of this size and density requires months of dedicated human labor, demanding immense patience and precision from the weaver.

Weighing 5.6 kg, the substantial weight reflects the heavy-duty density of the materials and the tight packing of each knot row. This intensive manual effort ensures exceptional structural integrity, pattern clarity, and a thick pile that will endure for generations.
