Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Brown / OrangeRunner79 x 253 cm

Bokhara rugs take their design lineage from ancient Central Asian nomadic traditions, famously named after the historic Silk Road trading hub of Bukhara. While the design roots trace back centuries across the steppes, the craft found a vibrant new home in Pakistan, where master weavers refined the techniques to produce some of the finest woolen floor coverings available today.

The 3ply technical specification refers to the practice of twisting three distinct strands of wool together before tying each knot. This specific method creates a significantly heavier and more durable yarn, producing a dense, lustrous pile that stands up exceptionally well to high-traffic living spaces.

The defining visual hallmark of the Bokhara tradition is the repeating gul motif, an octagonal or elephant-foot medallion arranged in neat rows across the field. Enclosed by orderly geometric borders, this harmonious layout reflects a deep cultural appreciation for symmetry and balanced design.

Collecting a Pakistani Bokhara means investing in a living piece of textile heritage. The combination of durable 100% wool materials and patient hand-knotting ensures that the cultural artistry passed down through generations continues to enrich modern homes with lasting quality.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Pakistan, representing weeks and months of careful manual labor. With a total count of approximately 50,000 individually tied knots across its surface, the creation of this piece demands immense patience and technical precision.

The 3ply construction means the pile is formed using three strands of wool twisted together before knotting. This traditional technique results in a substantially denser, more robust, and longer-lasting pile compared to standard single-ply methods, giving the wool a wonderful resilience against daily wear.
