Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Dark yellow / BrownRunner78 x 237 cm

Bokhara rugs trace their design roots back along the ancient Silk Road to the city of Bukhara in Central Asia, where nomadic and village weavers first developed the iconic repeating motifs. Over generations, the tradition migrated southward, and today some of the finest examples are carefully crafted in Pakistan by artisans keeping these heritage techniques alive.

The 3ply designation in this rug means the pile is built using three strands of wool twisted together before knotting. This specific technique creates a denser, heavier, and more robust pile that stands up to foot traffic much better than single-ply alternatives while maintaining a rich texture.

The visual language of this tradition is centered around the recurring gul motif, an octagonal or elephant-foot shaped medallion arranged in orderly rows down the field. Framed by a structured geometric border, these motifs carry deep cultural meaning within Central Asian weaving history.

Collecting a rug from this tradition connects your living space to centuries of textile artistry and human skill. Owning such a piece means welcoming a tangible piece of cultural heritage into your daily life, valued as much for its enduring durability as for its storied design.

This runner is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who spend months tying individual knots by hand onto the foundation. Covering a total size of 237 x 78 cm, the piece contains approximately 46,000 carefully placed knots.

The sheer time and human effort required to achieve a density of 250,000 knots per m2 reflect a high level of traditional craftsmanship. This meticulous hand-knotting process ensures that the pattern remains sharp and the wool stays securely anchored for decades of daily use.
