Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Dark red / BlackRunner78 x 220 cm

Bokhara rugs trace their design roots back to the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, where nomadic and village weavers developed a distinct visual language. Over generations, the tradition migrated southward into regions like Pakistan, where local artisans mastered and refined these classical weaving methods to create pieces of exceptional standard.

The 3ply designation in the name refers to the construction of the pile yarn, which is spun from three individual strands twisted together. This multi-ply method produces a significantly sturdier, denser, and more lustrous pile than single-ply alternatives, ensuring the rug withstands daily foot traffic while retaining its rich texture.

Visually, this tradition is defined by repeated gul motifs, which are octagonal or elephant-foot medallions arranged in neat rows across the field. Enclosed by orderly geometric borders, these symbolic patterns reflect a long-standing heritage of disciplined craftsmanship and harmonious composition.

Collecting a rug from this lineage means preserving a centuries-old craft tradition in your own living space. The immense skill required to tie hundreds of thousands of knots by hand turns a simple floor covering into a lasting heirloom of cultural significance.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted by experienced artisans who spend months tying individual knots by hand. A total knot count of approximately 2,745,600 knots is woven into its 220 x 78 cm dimensions, representing a remarkable investment of time and human dedication.

Weighing 5.3 kg, the substantial construction reflects the dense packing of 100% wool yarn across the foundation. This careful hand-knotting process guarantees not only exceptional structural integrity but also a crisp, defined pattern and a rich pile density that machine-made alternatives cannot replicate.
