Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Brown / OrangeRunner76 x 207 cm

Bokhara rugs trace their design roots back along the ancient Silk Road to the historic city of Bukhara in Central Asia. Over generations, weaving families migrated and established new traditions in regions like Pakistan, where master artisans preserved these iconic designs while refining their own distinct approach to wool quality and knotting precision.

The 3ply designation in this rug's construction refers to a pile woven using three strands of wool twisted together before knotting. This traditional method produces a thicker, exceptionally durable, and more lustrous surface compared to standard single-ply yarns, helping the rug withstand heavy foot traffic while retaining its natural sheen.

The visual language of this tradition is defined by repeating gul motifs, which are octagonal or elephant-foot medallions arranged in neat rows across the calm beige field. These central symbols are framed by carefully balanced geometric border patterns, creating a harmonious and structured look that has remained popular for centuries.

Rugs from this storied tradition are highly valued by collectors and interior enthusiasts alike for their cultural depth and enduring craftsmanship. Owning one means acquiring a tangible piece of textile heritage that represents years of skill, patience, and artistic expression.

This rug was brought to life through traditional hand-knotted techniques passed down through generations of skilled artisans in Pakistan. Each individual knot is tied entirely by hand, representing months of careful human labor and a profound level of craft expertise.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the creation of this 207 x 76 cm runner required hundreds of thousands of precise hand movements. This meticulous process determines not only the sharpness of the intricate motifs but also the remarkable density and long-term resilience of the wool pile.

Weighing 4.9 kg, the substantial construction reflects the heavy investment of time and quality materials required to produce such a durable piece. This human-made approach results in a level of strength and structural integrity that simply cannot be replicated by machines.
