Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Green / Dark yellow135 x 204 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road trading hub of Bukhara in Central Asia, a historic melting pot of textile traditions. Over generations, weavers migrated and carried these distinctive design motifs across borders, establishing vibrant new weaving communities in Pakistan that continue the tradition today.

The designation 2ply refers to a traditional technique where the pile yarn is spun from two individual strands twisted together. This method creates a thicker, more resilient yarn that yields a denser, more lustrous pile capable of withstanding years of daily use while retaining its soft feel.

Visually, Bokhara rugs are defined by repeating gul motifs, which are octagonal medallions arranged in structured rows across the field. This example features a soft green field framed by a detailed geometric border, offering a fresh take on traditional motifs.

Collecting rugs from this lineage connects your home to a rich craft heritage. Owning a hand-knotted piece means preserving centuries of skill, material knowledge, and cultural tradition passed down through generations of artisans.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Pakistan, representing months of careful and dedicated human labor. Every single knot is tied by hand into the foundation, requiring immense precision and patience to achieve the final design.

With a total count of approximately 688,500 knots across its 204 x 135 cm surface, the weaving process takes several months of daily work to complete. This level of craftsmanship ensures high pile density, sharp pattern definition, and long-lasting structural integrity.

Weighing 6.9 kg, the substantial construction reflects the generous amount of natural wool used in the weave, resulting in a durable piece that stays securely in place on your floor.
