BaluchHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red95 x 182 cm

The Beluch rug tradition originates from the nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes of the border regions between the Middle East and Central Asia. These people have a long history of weaving rugs during their travels, often using local materials to create pieces that served both functional and artistic purposes in their daily lives.

The techniques used in these rugs are passed down through generations, with a focus on creating a durable and tightly woven surface. The use of Wool is a hallmark of this tradition, chosen for its ability to withstand the harsh conditions of nomadic life while providing warmth and comfort in the home.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their deep, saturated colour palettes and geometric motifs. You will often find repeating patterns that tell stories of the environment and the heritage of the weavers. The borders are typically quite formal, framing the central field and creating a cohesive look that is instantly recognisable to collectors of tribal textiles.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a rich cultural history. These rugs are highly valued for their authenticity and the human skill required to produce them. By adding this rug to your home, you are preserving a craft tradition that has remained largely unchanged for centuries, celebrating the beauty of hand-wrought artistry.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Each individual knot is tied by hand, resulting in a robust and durable construction that is far superior to any mass-produced alternative.

With a total weight of 4.7 kg distributed across its 182 x 95 cm frame, this rug demonstrates the high density of material used in its creation. This weight is a direct indicator of the quality and the significant amount of Wool that has been worked into the foundation, ensuring it stays firmly in place while providing a luxurious feel.

The time and human effort invested in creating this piece are evident in the sharpness of the patterns and the consistency of the weave. This labour-intensive process ensures that the finished rug is not only a functional floor covering but a lasting piece of craftsmanship built to endure for years to come.
