BaluchHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown80 x 118 cm

This rug belongs to the rich tradition of Beluch weaving, a craft historically practised by nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes across the border regions of the Middle East. These tribes have long been renowned for their ability to create durable, portable, and visually striking textiles that reflect the landscapes and cultural symbols of their ancestral homes.

The construction of such pieces relies on age-old techniques that prioritise strength and longevity. Hand-knotted rugs from this region are celebrated for their resilience, as the specific way the fibres are tensioned and knotted results in a pile that withstands the rigours of everyday life while maintaining its appearance over time.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their sophisticated geometric language. The field is often filled with stylised tribal motifs and repeating patterns, frequently framed by complex borders that demonstrate the weaver's mastery of symmetry and colour balance. The dark, earthy tones typical of this tradition are often accented with vibrant highlights that create a sense of depth and movement.

Owning a Beluch rug is more than just a decorative choice; it is a connection to a long-standing cultural heritage. Collectors value these pieces for their authenticity, the human story behind every knot, and the way they bring a sense of historical narrative and artisanal skill into a contemporary home.

This piece is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that demands immense skill and patience. By tying each individual knot by hand, the artisan ensures a level of structural integrity and pattern precision that machines cannot replicate.

The density and weight of this rug are a direct testament to the time and effort invested in its creation. With a size of 118 x 80 cm and a weight of 2.5 kg, it is a substantial, well-constructed item that reflects the traditional techniques passed down through generations of skilled weavers.
