BaluchHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red102 x 198 cm

The Beluch rugs originate from the nomadic tribes of the Middle Eastern borderlands, a region renowned for its deep-rooted weaving traditions. These rugs were traditionally crafted by families on portable looms, allowing them to carry their artistic heritage with them across the vast, rugged landscapes they called home.

The term Beluch refers to the distinct style and knotting techniques passed down through generations. These weavers are known for their ability to create complex, balanced designs using only memory and tradition as their guide, resulting in a product that is as much a testament to human ingenuity as it is a functional floor covering.

Signature design elements of these rugs often include geometric motifs, tribal symbols, and deep, saturated colours derived from natural dyes. You will often see repeating patterns and intricate borders that reflect the weaver's environment and cultural identity, making each piece a narrative of the region's history.

These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the sheer level of human effort invested in their creation. Owning a Beluch piece is an opportunity to connect with a centuries-old tradition, bringing a sense of cultural weight and enduring quality into your living space that modern manufacturing simply cannot match.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill. By individually tying each knot, the artisan creates a dense, durable pile that is far superior to machine-made alternatives, ensuring the rug remains a staple in your home for decades.

The 198 x 102 cm dimensions and 5.5 kg weight are testaments to the substantial amount of wool used in its creation. This density is the result of thousands of individual knots placed by hand, a labour-intensive craft that results in the sharp, clear pattern and long-lasting quality you see in every detail.
