The Hamadan region in the Middle East is one of the oldest and most prolific rug-weaving centres in the world. Situated on the ancient trade routes, this area has long been a hub where diverse tribal and village traditions converge, resulting in a wide variety of styles and motifs that are celebrated for their authenticity.

The term Hamadan serves as a broad classification for rugs originating from this vast area, often characterised by their robust construction and use of high-quality Wool. The craft relies on techniques passed down through generations, where the mastery of the knot is essential for creating the varied patterns and long-lasting resilience these rugs are famous for.

Design-wise, these rugs often feature a central medallion surrounded by a geometric or floral field, with a decorative border that frames the composition. The Asadabad style is known for its distinct colour palettes and intricate motifs, which often draw inspiration from the natural surroundings and cultural heritage of the local villages.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural history. Each piece tells a story of the artisan's environment and the specific design language of their community, offering a depth of character that mass-produced items lack and making them highly valued by those who appreciate heritage and skill.

Each Asadabad rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to every piece. This labour-intensive process ensures that the pile remains dense and resilient, providing a level of quality and detail that simply cannot be achieved through machine production.

The construction is grounded in a sturdy foundation, which, when combined with the thick Wool pile, contributes to its impressive weight of 10.9 kg. This substantial heft is a direct result of the high-quality materials and deep, dense knotting technique, ensuring the rug lies flat and retains its shape for generations.

By investing in this hand-knotted rug, you are supporting a craft tradition that values human precision and patience over speed. The time and effort required to complete such a piece are reflected in its durability, making it a reliable and long-lasting addition to your home.
