ArdebilHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Black67 x 97 cm

The Ardebil rug takes its name from the historic city of Ardebil in the northwestern region of the Middle East. This area has long been a significant hub for textile arts, famously known for being the home of some of the most celebrated antique carpets in existence. The tradition here is deeply rooted in a history of artistic exchange and regional craftsmanship that spans centuries.

In the context of rug-making, the Ardebil style is renowned for its sophisticated use of central medallions and floral motifs. These designs often draw inspiration from the natural world, translated into a formal, geometric language that reflects the cultural values of the region. The precision required to execute these patterns is a hallmark of the craft, demanding a keen eye for detail and a steady hand.

Signature elements of these rugs often include a large, central medallion surrounded by smaller floral sprays or geometric flourishes, all contained within wide, decorative borders. While traditional in their layout, the specific colour palettes and variations found in these pieces tell the unique story of their creation, making each one a distinct expression of the weaver's vision.

Collecting an Ardebil rug is about more than just decor; it is about preserving a piece of cultural history. These rugs are highly valued for their enduring quality and their ability to bridge the gap between historical tradition and modern home life. By choosing an authentic piece, you are supporting a lineage of skill that has been passed down through generations of artisans.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill to ensure every strand is secured with precision. By relying on human effort rather than machinery, each knot contributes to the overall structural integrity and long-term durability of the finished piece.

The weight of 2.2 kg in this compact size reflects the high density of the materials used, signalling a robust construction that is built to stand the test of time. This dedication to craft results in a depth of pile and a clarity of design that simply cannot be replicated by automated production methods.
