Abadeh rugs originate from the city of Abadeh, located between the major weaving hubs of Shiraz and Isfahan in the Middle East. This strategic location allowed local weavers to blend the rustic, tribal influences of the nomadic tribes with the more formal, sophisticated design sensibilities found in city workshops.

The craft of these rugs is defined by a specific approach to pile density and foundation strength. By using a robust Wool pile, these rugs are known for their ability to withstand the rigours of daily use while maintaining a soft, lustrous appearance. This balance of durability and comfort is what has made Abadeh rugs highly sought after for generations.

Visually, these rugs are famous for their distinct use of the 'heibatlu' motif, a variation of the medallion design often surrounded by smaller, stylised floral and animal elements. The borders are typically filled with intricate geometric patterns, providing a structured frame for the more organic, flowing designs found within the central field.

Collectors value these rugs for their ability to tell a story of regional migration and artistic evolution. Owning an Abadeh rug is not just about floor coverage; it is about preserving a piece of cultural heritage that showcases the exceptional skill and creative expression of the artisans who have kept this tradition alive.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time to each individual piece. This traditional process involves tying thousands of knots by hand to secure the Wool pile to the foundation, a labour-intensive method that ensures both the complexity of the design and the long-term durability of the rug.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, this rug offers a high level of detail and a dense, luxurious pile. This high knot count requires immense precision and patience, resulting in a finished product that is far more robust and finely patterned than any machine-made alternative could achieve.

The quality of this construction is further evidenced by its weight of 16.4 kg, which reflects the generous amount of high-quality Wool used in its creation. This substantial weight is a hallmark of superior craftsmanship, providing a heavy, stable feel that speaks to the dedication and skill invested by the weaver in every single square centimetre.
